Our home has been rated a "D" home. Building a home is probably the most expensive endeavor that any person ever has. The saying goes, "You get what you pay for." In this case we spent a lot of money and got a money pit. This whole experience has taught me not to trust the building industry or anyone affiliated with it. This includes salespeople who will say or do anything to gain your trust but never had your best intensions even though that is what they told you. Being in law enforcement I would never knowingly give up my rights for due process in a court of law.
All I have to say is DON'T DO MEYER DOUGLAS HOMES
Angela
Building a home was a new experience for all of us in the fact that we had no idea what to expect. Common sense tells you that nothing is perfect and we expected a few bumps along the way. The bumps we did experience have felt more like large potholes than small speed bumps. We educated ourselves the best we could but having never built a home before you don't know what you've missed.
We trusted Meyer Douglas Homes and those people that represent Meyer Douglas Homes. I would never have given up my rights for court proceedings with such a huge investment like a house. We trusted that Meyer Douglas Homes would make things right with the issues we discovered and that Meyer Douglas Homes would stay true to their words about building "quality homes". This couldn't be more further from the truth and my trust in builders is gone. A builder with integrity takes care of his customers and takes pride in the product he/she delivers.
Every time it rains I feel like yelling, "Man your battle stations!" Rainy days used to be a day of staying inside and having family time doing stuff together. Now we make frequent trips to the basement to see if any water has come in and we make sure the batteries are charge for the camcorder and digital camera to prove we aren't lying about the water intrusions. No family should have to go through this. From the moment we started building, I had dreams of a swing set in the backyard for the kids to play on and creating a home I would grow old in. Now my dreams are goneā¦there is no swing set in the back yard and all the things we talked about doing to our home have been put on hold because all the money we would have spent on those things have gone to legal fees and paying for inspections.
My dream home has now become "the house". The quality of this house is not the quality we paid for. I feel ripped off by Meyer Douglas Homes and tell people to stay away from them. Meyer Douglas Homes doesn't care about their customers. Meyer Douglas Homes only cares about the almighty dollar. This whole situation makes me sick to my stomach.
My boys are ages 6 and 3 years old right now. I had no idea how much our house situation was affecting my kids until Christmas 2007. Christmas morning is supposed to be full of fun and surprises, watching the reactions of your children opening their presents. On December 25, 2007, my oldest son, Hunter, got a Fischer Price Kid Tough Digital Camera. He was so excited when he saw it but nothing could prepare me for the words that came out of his mouth, "Mom, look, I got a camera just like you. Now I can take pictures of the water when it comes into the basement." I was speechless. I gave him a kiss, smiled and walked into the other room where I began to cry.
All the problems with our house are because of the shoddy construction done by Meyer Douglas Homes. None of this is our fault but my whole family is paying for the mistakes of Meyer Douglas Homes and their inability to take responsibility for the actions of their company and their company representatives.
Connie
The joys we should've experienced with decorating and making our house into a home have been striped away by all the problems we've encountered. Plans we had for personalizing our home have been put on the back burner indefinitely. My faith in the legal system is diminished and my trust in home building no longer exists. I have nothing but contempt for Meyer Douglas Homes.
